Crazy Craft Races

The Crazy Craft Races take place on Saturday during the Fish Festival at 1 pm on the Vermilion River. The event is open to all, so all you need is some imagination to build whatever kind of vessel inspires you. Join the fun at the City Ramp between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. The vessels then sail from the Public Boat Ramp to the Water Works Marina going with the rivers natural flow. Over $1500 in prize money awarded for theme, design, creativity, construction, engineering, effort, enthusiasm and spirit.

Vermilion Relay For Life

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. Vermilion Relay For Life is part of the largest special event in the entire country, generally held over a 24 hour period, in over 3,000 communities nationwide. This is a celebration that brings together people from all walks of life, neighbors, friends, work associates and families with the common goal of celebrating those who have survived cancer and remembering those who have not. The event represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
Arts Guild Art Gallery Opening

Arts Guild of Vermilion opened a new gallery on Friday, June 1 in the Harbour Store building (formerly Hammons Bakery) on Liberty. The gallery hours will be 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday through Saturday and 12:00 to 5:00 on Sundays. A portion of all sales will be given to the Arts Guild to defray the cost of utilities and marketing.
Memorial Day Events

The Vermilion Veteran's Council began Memorial Day events with flags placed at Maple Grove and Rugby cemeteries on Friday, May 25 at 6 pm. The flags will remain until Flag Day. On Sunday, May 27 Color Guards held services at Volunteer Bay at 2 pm. Services followed at 3 pm at the Inn at Chappel Creek. Veterans formed at Exchange Park at 8 am to raise and lower the flag to half-staff and place the wreath. At 9 am the flag at Maple Grove was raised and lowered to half-staff and the wreath placed. Veterans formed at Ferry Street at 10 am for the parade. Memorial Day Services began at at Victory Park at 11 am. Army Veteran Terry Maher was the speaker.

Vermilion's legendary prom tradition lived up to its reputation on Saturday, May 12th as the Vermilion High School was transformed into "Rio Carnivale". Thousands of spectators showed up to watch students arrive in antique cars, tractors, hummers, wagons, limousines and more to make their walk down the red carpet.
